The World Is Mine

Today upon a bus, I saw a lovely maiden with golden hair.
I envied her, and I wished I were as fair.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one foot and wore a crutch.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine,
I have two feet the world is mine.

And when I stopped to buy some sweets,
The lad who sold them had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad.
And as I left, he said to me,
"Thank you.  You've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said,  "I'm blind."
Oh God, forgive me when I whine,
I have two eyes the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child with eyes of blue.
He stood and watched the others play,
It seemed he knew not what to do.
I stopped a moment then I said,
"Why don't you join the others dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.

And then I knew he could not hear.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine,
I have two ears the world is mine.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine.
With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd know.

Oh God, forgive me when I whine.
I'm blessed indeed, the world is mine.

  1. We all bear a burden of sorts ... some physical, some emotional and some both. But no matter our pain or burden, aching or grief, it is so important to notice and offer gratitude for the good things we do have.

My good things for which I am thankful for today:
    Hot coffee
    My doggie is feeling better
A brand new set of water color pencils!!!
Friend coming over this afternoon to make home made mozzarella cheese!

  2. Oh Whitney, I love this. Thank you so much for posting this sweet poem and this sweet post. It is so easy to forget how blessed we are and this poem is such a beautiful reminder of how blessed we are and how grateful we should be despite trial. Thank you for this lovely reminder and your ever good example! :)

  3. I love it. Thank you so much for sharing. I often need reminders that my life isn't as difficult as it could be.
